The Legion of Mary is a lay catholic organisation for men and women. It was founded by Frank Duff in Dublin in 1921 and now there are groups in most countries of the world with about three million members. Each group (called a presidium) meets every week, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion. The meetings last about an hour and the members undertake to do some apostolic work each week. The main work is visiting the sick and lonely in their own homes or in nursing homes.
